AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DANCE

 November 2009 Newsletter

As the busy holiday season approaches your calendars are undoubtedly getting full.  Please take a moment to read each section of the newsletter carefully noting all important dates and reminders!

HALLOWEEN PARTIES THIS WEEK:   Just a reminder that Halloween parties will be held for preschool through primary age classes this coming week, October 26th – 31st.  Students may wear Halloween costumes to class if they wish.  Class will be held as usual with a short party being conducted during the final 15 to 20 minutes of class. Immediately prior to the party the students will perform a short Halloween dance for their parents, so plan to be present 30 minutes before class ends if you want to see your child perform!   Class moms should have already recruited parent volunteers to provide snacks for the class parties.

COSTUME DEPOSITS:  Thank you to all who have made deposits on the recital costumes.  If you have not done so or have just recently started classes, we ask that you make a deposit of 25.00 per costume as soon as possible.  If you don’t know how many costumes your child will have, please see Marikay in the office, and she will help you calculate your costume deposit.  All costumes will be ordered prior to Christmas break.    Costume balances will be posted to your dance account in January, and the balances due will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the office.   Costumes will be distributed by your child’s teacher when they arrive.   In order to receive your costume(s), all account balances must be paid to date. Please remember that you are obligated to purchase the costume, once it has been ordered, even if your child discontinues classes.  Unless we have been notified that your child will not be in the recital, we WILL order him/her a costume.

CHRISTMAS PARADE:  Once again our studio plans to march in the Hendersonville Christmas Parade.  The parade is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, December 6th at 2:30 PM.   Participation is voluntary.  Our students walk/dance in the parade, so very young children will need to be accompanied by a parent. Those participating in the parade who are in grades Kindergarten and up will learn a dance to do as we travel down the street. (All preschoolers need to be escorted by their parents in the parade.  They just walk & wave & look cute!)  This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Carnivale”.  The teachers will teach the parade dance in class, and a group rehearsal for all those participating will be held at the studio on Friday, December 4th from 6:00-7:00 PM.    Please watch your email for further updates on the parade regarding required attire, meeting time and location etc.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS:  In observance of the Christmas holidays we will be closed from Tuesday, December 22nd through Sunday, January 3rd.  That means that our last day of operation prior to Christmas will be on Monday, December 21st.  Classes will resume on Monday, January 4th.  Please remember that we do collect a full month’s tuition for November and December.  Our fees are based on an average of 4 classes per month.  Your child will attend 3 classes in December.  In a future month your child will have 5 weeks of class which will compensate for the missed December class.  In observance of Thanksgiving we will be closed from Thursday November 26th through Saturday, November 28th.  We will observe a modified schedule on Wednesday, November 25th. Those who have Wednesday classes will receive a separate email with the details of the modified November 25th schedule.  Children missing classes due to Thanksgiving break are welcome to make up their class at another time if desired.  Please check with the office if you would like make up class times.

HOUSEKEEPING:  With over 500 students and their parents in and out of the studio each week, it is a challenge to keep the building clean and tidy, and we ask for everyone’s cooperation.  Students, please be sure to throw away trash, uneaten food or drink, and clean up spills when they occur. If you need assistance with supplies please ask our staff. Parents, we ask that you help by attending to spilled snacks, crayons, toys etc left on the floor, tables or chairs by younger children and siblings. Please do NOT dispose of any trash in the trash receptacle located in our back parking lot.  Please only use the trash cans located inside the building.  Only trash that is bagged and sealed in a large trash bag can be disposed of outside. We thank you for your cooperation.

INCLEMENT WEATHER:  Again, let us remind you that we do NOT always follow the school closings in the event of bad weather.  Please check our website and answering machine for studio closing updates.

PARKING:  As you know, our parking lot is very busy most evenings. Please use a parking spot if available. Walk young children into and out of the building.  PLEASE exercise extreme caution when entering or exiting the lot.  We have many students walking through the lot on their way in or out of the building, and we want to ensure their safety.

FOOD ALLERGIES:  Please be sure to let your room mother know if your child suffers from  any food allergies so that these can be taken into consideration when planning the snacks for future class parties.

 Thank you.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
