AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DANCE FEBRUARY ’09 NEWSLETTER
Although our recital is nearly four months away, you will be hearing a lot about costumes, recital pictures, program books etc. in this and future newsletters. Please be sure to read all information carefully and mark all important dates on your calendars. First, be sure to mark May 30th and 31st as our recital weekend. Our dress rehearsals will be held on Friday, May 29th. Both the dress rehearsal and the recitals will be held at TPAC in the Jackson Theater (the largest theater).
TENTATIVELY the ballet, “Alice In Wonderland” will be presented at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 30th. The jazz and tap show will follow the ballet at approximately 6:30 PM on Saturday night. All students taking INDIVIDUAL classes in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical and all of the TUESDAY hip hop classes will perform in Saturday’s recital as well as Paula’s Thursday 5:45 kinderdance class and her Tuesday 5:15 three/four year old class. Competition dancers will perform in BOTH shows.
The Sunday show will begin at 2:00 PM. This show will include all 3 year and 4 year old combo classes (except Paula’s Tuesday 5:15 class); all kinderdance classes (except Thursday’s 5:45 kinderdance) ; all primary combination classes; and the Wednesday 6:00 and Thursday 6:45 elementary hip hop classes. Again, competition dancers will appear in BOTH shows.
In regard to costumes, please make sure that your child’s costume balance has been paid in full. If you are uncertain about the amount owed, please see Marikay in the office. Costumes are being handed out by the teachers as they arrive. Please store them carefully to avoid loss or damage. If a costume needs alterations we do have a seamstress that we can recommend. Her name and phone number are available in the office. Also, we are in the process of assembling a costume book that contains pictures of the costumes selected for each class. The book also lists the correct color of tights needing to be worn with each costume as well as any special accessories requested by the teacher. The book will soon be available for viewing in the office or the lobby areas. If anyone needs to purchase dance shoes or tights prior to pictures, please let us know so that we can place an order. We do have tights in stock, but we will need to place an order for those needing shoes. Please don’t wait until the last minute, or you may not receive them in time for picture week!!
As mentioned in previous newsletters, Mark Griffith of Nationwide Studios will be taking recital photos from March 28th – April 4th. Please remember that regular classes will NOT be held on the days that pictures are being taken. Essentially the dance rooms are converted into a photography studio and dressing areas during that time. Also please remember that many classes MAY have their pictures scheduled on a DIFFERENT day and /or time from their regular class time. You will be notified of the exact schedule well in advance. Of course you will need to have your child’s costumes, tights, shoes etc. ready in time for pictures! Keep in mind that Mark will photograph your child individually AND with his/her class. Each CLASS photo will appear in the recital program book, so we strongly encourage you to make sure that your child is present for the class picture. Parents are under NO obligation to purchase any photos. Pictures will be sold by the sheet after they are printed, and you will receive a package of prints with a price list from which you may make your selections. Unwanted photos will be turned back in to the office along with payment for those you choose to keep. In the March newsletter we will address additional details pertaining to costumes and makeup for picture day. Also in the March newsletter we will give detailed information regarding our annual recital program book. All CLASS pictures will appear in this book as well as individual pictures of those who elect to be included. Copies of program books from prior years are located on the tables in the lobby areas.
