Pre-School: Ages 2-5

Children are introduced to basic dance vocabulary and are taught song and dance routines especially choreographed for young children. Classes are designed to develop motor skills, coordination, rhythm, balance, and flexibility. Classes consist of creative movement, pre-ballet, rhythms, and tumbling. At age 4, classes include tap.

Primary: Ages 5-7

Combination classes include ballet, tap, and jazz movement. Dance vocabulary is expanded. Proper ballet alignment and technique are emphasized. More advanced rhythms and tap steps are introduced. Jazz movement includes basic jazz technique along with combinations incorporating current dance trends. Some tumbling is also taught in our Kinderdance classes.

Individual Classes: Ages 8 & Up

Separate classes are taught in the following areas: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, and Contemporary.  Class lengths vary from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the class level. Students are placed in the appropriate level by ability and age. Each of these classes will incorporate technique, progressions across the floor and a combination of moves pertinent to the respective discipline.

Helvetica Light is an easy to read font, with tall and narrow letters, that works well on almost every site.

All required dancewear and shoes are available at the AAD Boutique!

Dress Code:

 

Pre-School and Primary Classes:  Any color/style leotard, tights, pink ballet shoes and tan Mary Jane style tap shoes. (2 and 3 year combo classes only require ballet shoes)

Hair secured away from face. No loose or dangling jewelry.

 

Ballet:  Black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes.  Hair in a bun.  Short, sheer, wrap ballet skirts are permitted.  No shorts, T-shirts, loose hair, or dangling earrings/jewelry.  For recital all students must wear leather ballet shoes (not canvas).

 

Tap:  Dancewear (leotard or sports bra/tank, jazz shorts, capris, or dance pants). Smaller sizes use Mary Jane style tap shoes.  Students 3rd grade and up use Black oxford style tap shoes.

 

Jazz:  Dancewear (leotard or sports bra/tank, jazz shorts, capris, or dance pants).  Tan jazz shoes. 

 

Hip Hop:  Casual clothing that allows free movement.  No jeans.  Tennis shoes.  The teacher will specify a particular shoe that will need to be purchased prior to recital to coordinate with the recital costume.

 

Lyrical/Contemporary:  Leotard, dance pants or shorts, and footless tights. Bare feet preferred or foot thongs. 

 

Boys’ Attire:  Ballet-black sweat pants or dance pants, tank or T-shirt, and black ballet shoes. All other styles-any color pants or shorts, tank or T-shirt, black dance shoes

 

Competition Dancers:  Please confirm style and color with teachers before purchasing shoes!!!
